I have been doing some type of wrenching ever since I can remember. Whether it was a pedal bike, r/c car, dirt bike, truck whatever. I have had four-wheelers and dirt bikes since I was 5, so I had to do some fixing up on them. I was the shop tech for a company for 9 years and during that time I restored countless vehicles. Then I started working on Harleys in 2000. The joy I got out of that made my decision clear that I had no interest in four-wheels anymore. I started doing more and more things to my bike and it led to people wanting me to work on their bikes. Soon after that, I keep busy working on friends of friends bikes. When we were forced to move out of our old house, we were able to move to a location where our dream came true; a commercial shop where we could start a business. With the support from my wife, April, I started my official business McVay Custom Motorcycles in spring of 2009. Customer service is my number one priority. Here you will be treated right, save money, and be completely happy when you leave. I would love to have you as a customer, but to me, it's like making another friend.
I have a full time job as a mechanic at Deere's. Rory and I have four kids; Ian, Louis, Trinity, and Kaylee. I ride my own bike. It is a Harley Road King that Rory built and customized with an awesome paint job (he also painted). You might not see me in the shop much, but I do a lot of important things for M.C.M. I make up the shirt & hat designs and place the clothing orders. I am the event coordinator / planner. There is a lot put into the annual open house and hope everyone makes it on a yearly basis. I also give Rory my full support and keep him in line. Another full time job! :)
I grew up in Fredericksburg and graduated from New Hampton High School. At the age of 14, I started getting interested in cars and motorcycles. My dad taught me things he knew, and I took it from there. I continued to work on cars and motorcycles and learned to paint as well. I've worked at a few service and paint shops, as well as working industrial maintenance jobs. Now I'm here at MCM to move forward and be happy with what I do!
I started my career in graphic design and found out quick I didn't want to sit behind a computer all day. I then enrolled at Wyotech in Laramie, Wyoming. While attending Wyotech I took classes in collision & refinishing, street rod / custom fabrication, trim & upholstery. I currently own "Twisted Kreationz" in Hudson, IA and specialize in custom paint, upholstery, pin striping, and airbrushing. My attention to detail and high quality of work is why I partnered up with M.C.M. to bring you killer work at an affordable price, all in one place.
I've been in the motorcycle industry in one form or another my entire life, from running around the bike shop my father ran when I was little to going to MMI Orlando right after graduating high school. Motorcycles have always been my passion. I pride myself on my attention to detail and strive to ensure every motorcycle I work on is safe and reliable.
